When we were in Austin, Tx in Nov we had the good fortune to meet and hear Carey Kepler speak about her experience at the 2009 CrossFit Games where she won 3rd place. Being the world’s third fittest woman is a pretty show-stopping achievement. Carey also runs CrossFit Central with her brother and is the mother of two little ones.
Carey had this to say about what helped her accomplish her feats:
“You have to empower your mind to picture yourself as more and bigger than your physical body.”
My impression of Carey is that she doesn’t waste valuable time thinking or saying things like “I could never do what she can do.” or “I am too old to do those things.” or “Maybe if I wasn’t working and taking care of my kids.” As we approach the registration for the CrossFit Works Women Get-Some Challenge I want you to think about Carey’s words. Don’t think about what you can do now. Allow your mind to see you and know you accomplishing far more.

Speaking of awesome women. Jenny LaCoss. You can find her at 9am on alternate weekdays. Jenny has her blog up and going and there is a SWEET picture of the first 9am class of 2010. It is somewhat misleading however, since I think there are 3 men in the pic, none of which is Larry! Last Friday, Jenny’s class was all women except one visitor! Dave was incredibly gracious about it, push pressing all alone down at the end. We do have men here Dave. Anyway, check out Jenny’s blog.

I definitely need to stop being in awe of what other women do and pretend I don’t have limits. Also, I don’t really think Dave minded an all-girls (plus him) class
On a side note, I’ve had a wonderful four weeks with you all at Crossfit Works. I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet all of you, but have loved working out at your box and sweating and screaming and laughing with those of you whom I have met. My last workout with you will be Monday 7am and I’ll be sorry to go. Hopefully you won’t forget me next time I visit.
Will there be another Women’s challenge in the future? I can’t participate in this one because I’m working on the day of the initial work-out for it (it’s one of the 5 days I work in the entire year, ha!).
A.J.
You can take the baseline test on another day. There is plenty of time between sign-up and February 6th to do that. There are a couple others who already told us they can’t be here on the 6th who want to participate.
Carl
Thank you, Carl! Is this something I can discuss with Bryon when I come in for tomorrow’s workout, or do I need to set it up with you or Jen?
Carl,
I tried emailing the winter games in order to sign up but it didn’t work. Maybe my memory was not working. Was it wintergames@crossfitworks.com?
Nope, winteropen@crossfitworks.com
AJ-I will announce the alternative time when the registration opens. It’s gonna be great.
Thanks Jen, hopefully I will be able to make it
