If you check out the highlight video posted at www.crossfit.com for last weekend’s SD/AZ Sectionals you will see a close up of Matt T. Check it out!
There are a few people who will be out of town for the Official Women’s Challenge Final Benchmark next Saturday, April 10th. If you are one of those folks please come to Open Gym THIS SATURDAY at 10:00am and I will take you through the final benchmark!
I hope that someday soon, Kate’s young clients (above) will have a chance to see some of the CrossFit Works Women in action. Talking with these young athletes yesterday reminded me of what rock star role models so many of you in here could be for girls. I thought about Renee, Danielle, Lorna, Midori, April and Shannon, Cassie, Summer, Aimee and Liz and so many more of you all and I hope that you are all out there in your separate worlds being your strong, powerful selves. It is important.
In this month’s issue of Performance Menu (excellent bedtime reading) Yael Grauer interviews Rachel Cosgrove, author of The Female Body Breakthrough: The Revolutionary Strength-Training Plan for Losing Fat and Getting the Body You Want. Cosgrove is also a co-owner of Results Fitness in California. Check out Cosgrove’s FIT FEMALE CREDO!
1. Act as if you are a fit female.
2. Get out of your comfort zone.
3. Fuel your body to be fabulous!
4. Train hard or go home.
5. Get hooked on feeling fit, not a
number on the scale.
6. Be an early riser.
7. Make rest and relaxation a
priority.
8. Obstacles will arise – anticipate
them!
9. Keep a journal or a blog.
10. Eliminate the negative people
and surround yourself with positive
people.
11. Think about your thoughts.
12. Attitude is everything.
13. Manage your stress.
14. Put an end to body bashing
and instead celebrate your
strengths.
15. Don’t rely on will power. Have
strategies.
16. Stop rationalizing and making
excuses.
I really like Cosgrove’s list. For most of us I think we have several of these things dialed in pretty good, but usually there are a couple that remain elusive. Mine are the rest/relaxation thing, and the “getting out of my comfort zone”. I don’t engage in “body bashing” but I do forget to focus on my strengths sometimes because the weak spots are so glaring! I also am a a little too slap dash about my training journal. I think Summer might have a good one, any help for us with that Summer? How about you all? Which things on this list are tricky for you?

Just beginning to really figure out #15…really hard when sweeties are the addiction of choice. Still…getting much better! Finding alternatives and that’s helping a lot.
that’s a good list. #2 and #15 are the most challenging for me.. but i also say that i probably do #11 too much!
Couldn’t open Matt movie for some reason. Gotta see it! That’s a cool list above, though #1 is right out, pour moi.
Looking at it with guy eyes, I like No. 5 a lot, and No. 4. And I’d just add to No. 11, as a student of economics, “but not for too long.” I struggle with No. 15 too. Is almond butter on apple wedges better than peanut butter on apple wedges? Can I eat half a jar then? No? Awe….
I like how Dr. H answered his own question and followed it up with disappoinent. Almond butter and apple are pretty awesome with a little honey thrown in there.
#14 really hit home for Lance. He engages in way too much body bashing. He’s always complaining about how he feels fat, or talking about how his a$$ looks too big in his gym shorts.
Stop body-bashing and celebrate the fact that you can deadlift a Hyundai and have AMAZING eyelashes!!
Number 13 is hard for me shich in turn makes 15 a must and I have a hard time with that. I am amazed at how far I have come since Oct. 2008 when I first met Jen and Carl. I may not be on that list yet but I am closer to getting there and that makes me happy.
Holy cow that video is amazing. Even Pancho watched it and didn’t say anything, except: “that’s the guy with the little dog!” Good job, much respect.
It was cool to see matt in the video. great job out there Thrasher! Even better, you are hilarious! (based on your post above!)
yes, jen, I created a pretty cool training journal. however I havent written in it since mid Feb! you should take a look at Matt T’s log on his phone. He’s got his stats from his very first workout!
Matt,
I feel better about my body already. Thank you!
