Lifting with the Ladies!!

6am class was ALL WOMEN today.  Cool, especially when we tackle the Lifter’s Lift-the back squat.  This Lift  is “dudes-grunting-under-the-barbell” in a way that sent many women straight away from the “free weight room” at the gym!!  Not so at CrossFit Works this morning.  We tackled it head on.  The back squat shows up many squatting challenges common to our crew: poor depth range, poor knee tracking, forward bend at the waist and just plain anxiety!  I appreciate all of my athletes today focusing intently on spotting their lifting partners safely, digging deep for a full range of motion, care unracking and reracking barbells, watching each other’s forms and lifting heavy!!  The 6am Chicas seemed like such a good crew I kind of wished I could have jumped in and lifted with them.  I would’ve liked more time to hang out while we were stretching too…or maybe coffee?  Not that I don’t want to have coffee with Bruce and Adrian, Will, Paul and Mateo, but somehow it is different (and where were you all)…  High Five to April for her first workout as Rx’d!!  And thanks to Cassie because I made her Teacher’s Pet this morning during “Randy”.  It helps so much, for visual learners, to be able to look at the “correct answer”.  I brought Cassie right in front so that a solid example of a good Power Snatch was available.  Lance gets the “Teacher’s Pet Award” for his back squats…both times.  Nice job today everyone.

    Aw, it’s kind of reassuring seeing other people with depth range squat issues. The 12:15 class is full of badass guys and even though they’re all awesome and encouraging, I still feel lame with my puny weights and my box to squat down to :)

    Hang in there, my fellow ladies who are bad at squatting! It gets better, slowly…

    So Lance was an honorary chick this morning? Matty Thrash is now the funniest man I know… “So I guess Lance’s yeast infection is flairing up.” this was because lance couldn’t do the workout as rx’d, did snatch high pulls instead. (some lame excuse about an injured shoulder)

    Awesome job today ladies! I miss working out with April… great job at rx’d today. you are one bad ass mommy!

    FYI Jen: Adrian told me he woke up at 5 am and debated going to class this morning. He used his shoulder as his excuse not to go. I told him to get his ass to class on Wed! So if he doesn’t show up, let me know and I won’t allow him in bachata class on Friday!

    I’d also like to thank my partner, Karen, from yesterdays workout. We crushed it. I apologize to the 9am class yesterday for the Finnish metal music. You wanted something different.

    Also, Keith Lombardo is leaving Tucson tomorrow for a job in San Diego. He was one of the first clients at CW and has consistently improved over the past year and a half. The humble dude went from deadlifting 185 to 330. He was also the fastest crossfitter at CW, posting sick 800 meter and 1 mile times that will be difficult to beat.
