Winners of the Women's Challenge

Saturday morning, before the BBQ, we counted the final pushups and pullups for a couple of the women in the Get-Some Challenge.  It was 9 weeks of dozens of strict pushups added, pullup bands dropped, and kipping pullups achieved.  Great work ladies.

Here are the winners:

First Place:  Patty Zucco- Carl’s personal training client  $125.00 for Patty with $40.00 in iced tea for Carl

Second Place: Lori Lefferts-Andres’ 5:30 class $75.00

Third Place: Andrea – who claims you Andrea?  The 12:15 or the 9:00am?  Bryon?  Jenny? $50.00

Fourth Place: Carissa R.-Kate’s 5:00pm class  $25.00

Fifth Place: Renee L.- Andres’ 5:30pm class  $25.00

Looks like Andres’ 5:30 class is the place to be for establishing dedication and accountability.  More evidence of that was collected Saturday morning when Jessica E. came in to Open Gym and said she was going to do the beastly Clean and Jerk Ascending Ladder because otherwise Andres would be disappointed in her if she skipped it.

I remembered once or twice to get the camera out yesterday at the BBQ.  Especially when Kim waved goodbye to me with a chicken leg.  That was a beautiful moment.  Thanks for coming everyone.  There were some of you I never got a chance to visit with, but it was really fun meeting the spouses, friends and dogs I hadn’t met before!  Clariza, I hope the Urban Assault ride was a success.  Mary’s Paleo brownies were delicious beyond belief.  Trust me when I say they were not any sort of imitation of “regular” brownies.  I have eaten many a non-Paleo brownie that was nowhere near as lovely as the ones Mary made for us.  Look in the comments to see how Mary did it.  You can see a picture of Crandall’s elk sausage on my blog today, and who was the mystery person who brought those bacon-wrapped figs??? I could have eaten about 25 of those.

I was wondering if you could post the link for where I’ve been finding these
    > super paleo baked good recipes. They’re actually not all paleo…at a
    > minimum they’re just gluten free. But most of the recipes I saw were
    > paleo,
    > and if they weren’t, folks can figure out replacements pretty easily.

    > Also, what I added to make her brownie recipe good to supremely awesome
    > was
    > to throw in about a cup of chopped pecans. Then I took about 1/3 cup of
    > almond butter, warmed it up with honey and mixed it up, and after pouring
    > the brownie mix in the pan, I created zig-zag lines of the honey/butter
    > stuff with a spoon. I topped it off with melted dark chocolate and more
    > pecans.

That is from Mary-not from me. Just to add to the confusion!

  • Andrea

Bryon’s my trainer. Andres was my awesome counter. Thanks Guys!

There is also a recipe on there for a chocolate walnut torte that is like a little slice of heaven.

  • Jen

John, I don’t recall you making that for us when you were here…I believe you need to visit and bake us a cake!

Thanks again for all the organzing of the BBQ. Crossfitworks is just awesome. I too did not have a chance to chit chat with everyone, but really enjoyed seeing the community be together, socializing, laughing and being playful. It’s really nice and again I’m thankful for having found Crossfit.

…and Mary! Seriously your brownies flippN rock!

WHAT? I missed bacon wrapped figs!

  • Shannon

Oh and Miss Matilda Rose made the blog! She’s adorable and
    Ipood-able!

    hahahahahaha!

Only Crossfit can make one strong enough to finish a marathon with the longest run in training of 10 miles!
Tip for all the ladies: Never wear 4 inch heels days before your run. I’m sure that’s what killed my ankles and feet. This was not fun.

Thank you Carl!!! I honestly couldn’t have done it without you. The trick for winning was changing my diet===three meals a day; no snacking(it was rough at first). Now where is that brownie receipe (for my off day).

  • Betty Fournier

It was a beautiful day for a picnic and the CrossFit members, along with family and friends, made for a very pleasurable and amusing afternoon…and I am glad you enjoyed the bacon-wrapped figs.

Shoulda know it was Betty!!! (Are you sure you won’t adopt me???)

I’d like to thank Andres for his tireless enthusiasm and encouragement. I couldn’t have accomplished nearly as much without his help, including his close monitoring of my every squat (he’s relentless). I’m currently in India, and the benefits of crossfit have served me well here – on a crowded train, I had to lift my heavy duffle bag over my head (thank you, shoulder press)….. and, while experiencing some digestive difficulties out in the jungle, my improved squat position was a lifesaver (TMI?). Seriously, at the time, I was so greatful!! Thank you, also, to the entire 5:30 pm class for being so supportive. I’m donating my prize money to the class t-shirt project.

  • renee

mine can go to t-shirts too!

    “that’s dangerous!” :P

  • That picnic was so fun. Again, again! 4th of July, or somewhere near? Too hot at that time? Aww… Adapt, acclimatize, prevail. The brownies were legendary. The bacon wrapped figs with walnut were sumptuous. The fruit salad by Midori was great (paid political announcement…) The elk was yummy. And paleo belly dancing afterward was tons of fun. That first song was by Shireen I think. Hope they’ll be serving Turkish coffee at regionals…. Thanks Jen and Carl for genuine health care reform.
