Upcoming Events at CrossFit Works

It is summer in Tucson, but that doesn’t mean life has to stop.  It just gets a little sweatier.  We still have plenty of stuff going on around here.  It is almost time for me to lay down the Paleo Basics in our Nutrition 101 lecture, including the hows and whys of turning hunter-gatherer.  If you haven’t heard it yet, or need a little more encouragement, come in and listen.  As always my lecture is free and open to the public.  Wednesday June 9th at 7pm.

Bruce Montoya working with a young student during a Kids’ Self-Defense Workshop.

We also have a summer of great and important offerings from Bruce Montoya with Summer Sando  (check out their website at  www.combatfit.webs.com). Bruce teaches Krav Maga on a regular basis here at CrossFit Works. Opening our facility to instructors outside the CrossFit Works team, is a process that Carl and I take very seriously. Many people ask. We said “yes” to Bruce and Summer. We feel fortunate to have them offer their knowledge in our location.  Check out their workshops.  An additional Sunday Krav Maga Series will be announced soon.

Womens Self Defense Workshop

When: Saturday, June 19, 2010 12:30-2:30 PM

Where: CrossFit Works > > 204 S. Tucson Blvd. > > Tucson, AZ 85716

*This 2 hour workshop will focus on preventing and escaping abductions.* Although the information presented in this workshop will be intense and realistic in nature, the educational environment will be informative, safe, and full of fun. Led by a U.S. Marine with over 20 years of Personal Protection Experience, this CFC class is specifically designed for women with minimal martial arts and self defense experience. What is required for this seminar is… an open and humble mindset, one that will allow you to fully engage in this life long investment of Personal Protection. Combative Strike Combinations using elbow, forearm, fists and knees will be used throughout the class to instill the confidence and determination needed to gain the upper hand during an unforeseen attack. Pressure point training and bite techniques will also be covered to round out the effective tactics used to escape violent attacks. Awareness and avoidance strategies will also be taught and implemented throughout the class using role playing scenarios. Other topics, such as perpetrator manipulation techniques, pre-incident indicators, fear management and distraction tactics will also be discussed. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle and a sweat towel!

*Teens interested in particpating are invited but must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or a designated adult group leader.* Class size is limited, so reserve your spot and register soon! *Special Pre-registration Meetup Member Price: $20 if paid by June 9th*

i have a kid and I was waiting for the radkids but he is taking summer school at the desert museum that week. :(

It turns out that Pancho is taking the second session at the desert museum so he is free that week. I am excited about him doing it.

  • As a long time pursuer of the shotokan karate rabbit (haven’t caught him yet, but I’m gettin’ closer thanks to CrossFit) I would like to say how grateful I am for the sacrifices of time and talent of Bruce and Summer in teaching people those oh so effective skills. I met some Krav Maga practitioners at the Level 1 Cert last month in Scottsdale. Swapped some moves. I would so want those guys on my side in an altercation. That stuff works. Reminds me of the nastiness of the old Okinawan masters. You mess with me, you pay. Heavily.
