Check out www.crossfit.com on Sat April 25.
You will see two videos from the Regional Qualifying Games this weekend that really give you an idea of what the whole thing was like (and I know some of you are thinking about next year…). Especially interesting was the women’s competition. Due to the point system that was used (you can read about it if you click on the CrossFit Games navigation button at www.crossfit.com) it is true that the third place finisher scaled the second workout. The fantastic thing about these workouts was that they were adept at identifying weakness in the athlete. Remember CrossFit is about general physical preparedness. It is about being ready for anything. Damon, from CrossFit Wasatch in Utah, created these workouts and I don’t think he left out a single thing that would expose a CrossFitter’s weakness. The video shows one of my other most memorable athletes and performances from the weekend-Britney Barber, from CrossFit Fury. She was one of the tiny few that did not have to scale the HSPUs from Sat’s second workout. Unbelievably impressive (did that workout myself yesterday so underline impressive several times!).The video does not let you know how Britney finished. Sunday’s workout seemed like it found Britney a little tired and worn out which after the two on Sat would be absolutely expected. From very early on in the workout she was shaking her head and saying she couldn’t do it and couldn’t get through it. I didn’t believe her because each thing she did was so perfect. Not sloppy, not barely making range of motion. She looked so strong still, just worn out. I can’t underestimate the effort she made to get through a VERY LONG workout, perfectly. She had a lot of great support from the rest of CrossFit Fury. During her last set of box jumps it seemed like there was a chance she wouldn’t get through it. Scott, the head judge, came over with his watch. She had to be out the door for the last run in under 35min. She was really struggling with forcing herself to just jump onto the box time after time. She pushed so hard at the end and made it out the door in 34:18. Her mental toughness has to be fierce because she pushed way past many giving up moments. I had a hard time seeing Britney in the fourth place spot during the awards. She had a hard time seeing herself there too, I think. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing Britney again and not in fourth place.
Don’t forget, I’ll be at the track Sunday morning around 8:30 for a little CrossFit Endurance workout. I’d love some company!

Awesome videos of the Regional Qualifying Games!
If I am able to get out of bed tomorrow after today’s workout, I would love to walk over to the track to join you, Jen. I assess endurance as my #1 weakness.
I am feeling so happy and proud of our crossfit fit community. It was so amazing to see all of you lay your hearts on the line today and give it everything you had. Whether you were first or last, you are all amazing athletes.
Ona different note, I have an idea for those of us doing the paleo-zone 2 week challenge ( I am coming to the Friday mtg.) What would you think if each of us blogged one meal per day to hlep inspire and give ideas to eachother. Something you eat everyday might be a total revelation for me and vice versa. We could just post them to comment section of the daily blog. YOu could post the enteire recipe if you are up for it or just a summary incluidng how many blocks the meal was. What do you all think? See you all soon. Nikki
Completely unrelated question: How do I factor fat used to saute veggies and meat into my zone blocks for a meal?
Thank you Jen for your kind words. Britney is an excellent athlete and an even better sport. That weekend was tough on all of us and Brit handled everything very well considering.
You will be seeing Brit in the future, that is for sure. It was a pleasure meeting you this past weekend and if you are ever near by be sure to stop by. We will do the same.
Well I just realized I am week off for attending the meetings and have to get my act together by tomorrow to start counting. Ok I can do it. Who else is particpating?
I’m doing the Paleo-Zone challenge. I can’t guarantee that I will post a meal every day, but I would love to read about what others are eating.
Ryan,
You have to measure it. I find it easier while I am counting and measuring to steam veggies and add oil as a flavor/condiment. That way I know exactly how much I am getting. As for meat, if you grill it or bake it, it makes it easier. If not, just measure how much you used to cook it and try to get every last drop out of the pan!
