Many of us agreed that yesterday’s workout, the 5-4-3-2-1, 1-2-3-4-5 Thrusters and the 3-6-9-12-15, 15-12-9-6-3 Box Jumps was awesome! We will be revisiting that one again some day for sure.
We are incredibly fortunate to have met Bruce Montoya (through his fantastic wife Summer, of course). He is an instructor in Krav Maga, Israel’s foundational Combat Art for self-preservation. Unlike traditional Martial Arts (where a student typically trains and fights for a title), Krav Maga is a Combat Art in which participants train and fight for survival. Israeli Krav Maga incorporates effective and realistic self-defense techniques that have all been battle tested. Stress drills, fear management tactics, and functional conditioning exercises are all implemented in the training program. Bruce Montoya will offer three Free Intro sessions here at CrossFit Works. They will be about 30 minutes long. The dates are:
Saturday May 23, Saturday May 30 and Saturday June 6. Time 1:30pm. With enough interest, the June 6th could be a 2-3 our “Workshop”. Please let us know if you are interested.
For those of you wondering, like Ellie was about Paleo-Zone, “Is this something other CrossFit Affiliates do?” The answer is Yes, both to Krav Maga and Paleo-Zone. Ellie-the vast majority of CrossFit Affiliates work very hard to get their athletes eating properly using Zone and Paleo-Zone. And, just as CrossFit is general physical preparedness for Real Life, so is Krav Maga, combat for Real Life. Many, many Affiliates offer and teach Krav Maga. We are incredibly lucky to have this opportunity.
What to eat? Today, I sliced up a bunch of onions, added some mustard seeds, cumin and coriander and 1 lager beer. Hmmm, slightly un-Paleo, but delicious and you can easily use some kind of stock instead of the beer. Cook the onions in the beer until very soft. Then add as many Bratwurst as you want. Cook about 15 min. I like to finish the Brats on the grill for a few minutes and then serve the onions and broth over the Brats with plenty of mustard and saurkraut on the side.

What did you do with the other 5 beers?
the bratwurst sounds delicious. must say with the heat i am inclined to start making lots of cold soups. anyone have suggestions?
Ellie,
Jen would never say it herself, but most affiliates don’t have what we have in Jen. She is absolutely brilliant, and in my opinion, she is what sets us apart from other CrossFit gyms. She brings so much more to the table than she will ever admit, and we are extremely lucky to have her!
Carl
Funny you ask Ellie, I was saving the other 5 for when you and pancho invite me and ezra over for an off-meal!
I miss you guys so much.
I was a little burned out from the diet and lack of energy but then my back started hurting after doing one of the workouts at home so I guess I got lazy. Andres says it is perfectly okay for me to workout and it won’t hurt my back any more so I have no more excuses. I will see you guys tomorrow.
And Jen, I am thinking that you guys should come over next week. Wednesday…. I guess I will see you tomorrow.
Ellie
I agree with you Carl, Jen is amazing and we are so lucky to have her, and lots of other people from other affiliates totally agree
. What is a farmer’s walk? Been watching the Norcal qualifier videos. Starting to look forward to a cheat meal, feeling great though!
What’s up everyone? The brats sound great and easy enough to make that even a non cooking person like myself can make them. Just to let you guys know, I would definitely be interested in attending the intro Krav Maga classes, that is if I can get off of work in time..Oh yeah just to let you know, I am definitely feeling much better and have noticed a great boost in energy now that I am on the Paleo diet. Keep up the good work everyone!
Your website looks great! I love the emphasis on nutrition (not that I expected any less). We have found that this is where the real magic happens with CF. Without the nutrition you’re just running on a treadmill of carbs. I also love reading your posts, always thought provoking or helpful.
I’ve been back on Paleo / Zone strict for 2 weeks now. I gained about 37#’s of baby weight and I’m now within 9#’s of my goal weight and fitting into my normal clothes again. All do to the nutrition.
So stick with it folks, it’s well worth how great it makes you feel. Far more addictive then those evil carbs.
Love to you guys at CFworks. Hope to see you in the near future

P.S. I also think you all are lucky to have Jen, she’s great, utilize her wealth of knowledge.
So happy to report that if it weren’t for Jen & the 2 week challenge,I wouldn’t have “cleaned up” my diet……… Wow, this is a revolution for me. I didn’t stick to the portion/measuring aspect of the challenge but I accomplished what seemed impossible for me. I haven’t eaten any flour/grains/sugar.(except for a few tortilla chips when delicious salsa was present) I am getting my carbs from veggies & fruits. Right now my love affair is w/ mangos w/lime juice & chilipowder & sea salt!!!!!!!! I did use diet soda when I really wanted something sweet @ work (diet usually grosses me out, but I oddly have started to like it….this is a temporary crutch) I also used half/half in my coffee (i will never give it up…) but i only drink one cup/day. I also used cottage cheese for a protein?sp?protien.
It works for breakfast b/c eggs start to get boring. Any how, I wanted to come ‘clean’ about my interpretation of the challenge. Next time we do it I will be ready to measure & weigh my food. Once a gain a HUGE thanks to Jen, Carl & all for the inspiration to change my life for the healthier… my kids thank you, & my super cute fit as hell hubby thanks you. He no longer has to hold his crossfit tounge. Its official I have been bitten!!!!!!!! & I look forward to my first ‘real’ push up & pull up……. the life challenge is ON!
Must be about time for a cheat meal as I was dreaming about some weird boxed quick bread I used to eat as a kid
! SO glad we did this! After many attempts I have finally have put all the pieces together to be a paleo-zoner- yippeee. Feeling great.
