Mike, enjoying a little post-Fight Gone Bad fan effect.
On Monday, Mike G. rowed a 1:29 500M row. On the CrossFit Skill Level list this puts him between Advanced and Elite. Nevermind lists. That is a crazy fast time! Really amazing. But the first thing I thought about it is that our Affiliate has the nicest, kindest, most supportive badasses of any gym anywhere. I am reminded of how Carl and Kate and I felt after being in Flagstaff for the Qualifying Games-we loved it, but couldn’t wait to get home to our own CrossFit Universe. All of you who are accomplished, fast, strong, powerful CrossFitters (although of course still working on faster, stronger and more powerful-onwards and upwards) have so much to do with setting the tone and feeling in our Affiliate. New people are often scared and intimidated, and sometimes discouraged. You all do so much to put them at ease and create a feeling of INSPIRATION instead of depression and discouragement. I often hear newer people sound surprised that one of you who is a badass also turned out to be really nice and helpful! I, of course, am not surprised, but I still love it.

That’s exactly the reason why I chose this gym!!
Yeah Mike!
I love working out with all our badasses!
And it was fun doing round 2 yesterday. My legs are sore. I was gonna go in and try to do Kelly at 5:30 but I don’t know if I can do any more wall balls! Ugh.
I couldn’t agree more! I’ve been working out at CrossFit Invictus for the past two weeks here in San Diego. It’s been really great. Everyone there has been kind, welcoming, and helpful, but it just isn’t the same as CrossFit Works. I look forward to seeing everyone next week!
I’m looking forward to getting back to the Tucson baddasses too (although the cool Idaho weather aint bad). Lifting at an Anytime Fitness (across from the Walmart) in Mountain Home, ID a couple times a week and running up sand dunes with sand bags, power lifting boulders, box jumping on picnic tables and pull-upping on cabin rafters in Bruenau State Park is pretty cool but it doesn’t feel like home. Crossfit Works is literally a block from my house and it has become an extension of my living space (Carl and Jen are probably squirming at the thought of my return). Life is pretty good: my hot new wife agrees to live in our 1985 Econoline camper van, bbq most nights and lets me train (and write) every day while she toils as an archeologist, but the Tucson crossfit scene has become a staple in my life for the last several months. I have been obsessively involved in athletic pursuits for my entire life and, I too, recognize that this is a good thing.
So, thanks to the trainers. Bryon for teaching me to count. Andres and Jenny for being super rad training partners. Mike for showing me proper lifting technique and all things form-related. Carl for being way mellow and optimistic. And Jen for being chief motivator and the mastermind of this experiment on Broadway and Tucson Blvd. I hope I can hang with the badasses when I return. Maybe they will be nice to me too.
Oh yeah. And thanks to Kate for being such a good jump rope instructor.
