Marvelous, Wonderful, Nutritious, Delicious Fats-A Nutrition Talk

This Wednesday at 7:00pm (May 27th) there will be a talk here at the gym on dietary fat.  Fat is the most fascinating, misunderstood, maligned nutrient around.  Do you know the difference between saturated, unsaturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, medium chain, short chain, raw, cooked, vegetable or animal fats?  Do you know what functions in your body depend on various fats?  Are you absolutely sure you are right?  When I teach future Personal Trainers about dietary fats I frequently face a room full of people interested in health and wellness and yet shaking their heads saying, “But this is exactly the opposite of what I thought was true…”  We will even talk about cholesterol, despite the fact that cholesterol is not a fat at all, at all, at all.  The photo above is a handful of trail mix (Vivapura brand).  It includes a variety of excellent plant fats from coconut, pumpkin seeds, raw cacao nibs, pistachios.

If I had a photo of one of you hunters with your deer, I’d put that on here too because wild game meats are a precious source of excellent fats.  My photo collection seems to be lean when it comes to that sort of thing.  Hope to see many of you on Wed evening.

    Ellie,
Are you going to bring Pancho? If you do then I may come and bring the kids. Bodhi really likes him and maybe I would hear some of Jens talk if he was distracted.

I am going to bring Pancho. He seems to like these little social events. I’ll tell him Bodhi is going to be there so he’ll bring stuff to share, he loves that too. Well, only with little babies.

Mmm…fat. Looking forward to learning more about my favorite nutrient!

    Great talk last night Jen!

it raised all kinds of questions for me, especially on how to apply all that was shared. So, here’s my suggestion: how about a follow up talk on applicability? E.g. how to look at the labels and recognize the different kinds of fats.

    Thanks for all support!
