Fight Gone Bad has been done!

Thank you to everyone who came and worked out and all of you who came and kept score and tended grill and cheered on the athletes!  Ron and family stepped right up and tended grill which was heaven-sent as it was the one thing I didn’t really have a plan for-and it all went true to Carl’s nature.  I stressed about who would get the grill going during the workout, Carl assured me it would all be fine, and sure enough at the midnight (actually post-midnight) hour, there was Ron volunteering himself and his grill.  The carne asada was delicious.  Mary and Luciana and Dave kept the scorekeeping on track.  It was a great night.  31 people finished FGB.  The winners were:

MEN

1. Bryon L. 306

2. Spencer and Lance 265

3. Mike G. 258

4. Matt T and Ryan C. 240

WOMEN

1. Summer 343

2. Jenny L. 282

3. Kate W. 266

4. Jen H. 230

5. Briar 210

Special shout out to all the people who are very new to CrossFit, who came and did this workout.  Courageously well done.  Peter, Drew, David, the other Jen H., John P, Nicola, and Kari come again any time.  High five to Ellie, Shannon and Steph who all chose to do the workout as Rx’d even though it was a big push for them.

Steve and Midori opened the evening for us with a reading of the Declaration of Independence and provided the Arizona and US flags that now hang on our Affiliate.  It was the perfect beginning and as many of you notice, there is something different almost every day about CrossFit Works.  Beautiful flags are the newest thing.

Yes, yes-I know the picture is sideways.  I welcome any of you to come and teach me how to fix it.   Still, I can’t leave out a pic of Steph and Spencer because not that many people Fight Gone Bad together mere days after their 20th wedding anniversary when they still fit into their wedding dress.  Not Spencer, in the dress, obviously.

Excellent performances by Kari, Andrew, Matt and Lance.  Kari and Lance brought the crunchy, tasty Asian slaw.  And have you heard Andrew talk about tea?  It would never occur to me to think too much about tea (although I was married to an Englishman), but when I hear Andrew talk about tea it sounds like the most fascinating, mysterious, complex topic.  Ask him.

What did you all think?  Any requests for the next event?  I hope all of you had as sweet a holiday weekend as I did.  Not only did I do FGB, but the next night I got to hear Carl sing which has been a very rare occurrence lately.  Someone should figure out a way to get very sad country songs fit into CrossFit workouts.

Next time we should rent a Karaokee Machine… that will get Carl singing more sad country songs.

  • Ellie

Hell yeah!!! I second the kareoke machine idea. We would have to have ALOT more beer for me to sing but I’d love to hear Carl, and Jen for that matter.
We are definitely going to have to do something fun in August when it is brutally hot and there aren’t an vacation days. I am excited about starting to be able to do things that I couldn’t before. Next time I will hopefully be able to do some pull ups!

I’m sad I couldn’t stay for the potluck! Sounds like it was a lot of fun. The workout was tough but I’m glad I did it :)

  • Thank you Jen and Carl for putting this awesome event together for us! Freedom, food, and fitness. Yum.
