I hope you all have noticed that at the top of this blog post there is a new Logo as of this week. It is just what Carl and I wanted and imagined way back in Sept of last year and we couldn’t pay someone enough to design what we were envisioning. No one got it. Turns out some people need to spend more time looking at things in real life so they know what they should look like! Anyway-then we met Chauncey, and for several weeks had no idea he was an incredible artist. Now we know and our new logo was created by Chauncey. We are so happy.
Carl and I continue to be surprised at how much of a community our CrossFit world has become. Most of you know that is a word that gets thrown around quite a bit and when we first opened our Affiliate I really pictured that my CrossFit Affiliate Community would be my crossfitting world-as in a community of people to do CrossFit with. I don’t think Carl or I had any idea how BIG that idea of community would actually be, how all encompassing. We never imagined how this Affiliate would come to rely on you all to exist as a vibrant, growing, enjoyable entity. So many of you are integral to the actual gym-you have done carpentry, hung pull up bars, painted, moved mats, created logos, manned the grill, and taught yoga. Others of you appeared out of nowhere like a gift from the Universe and help keep us true to our original Vision (take Dave for example, if I had spent two years searching for Dave like: Wanted: lovely young person, kind, generous and encouraging with an eye for teaching the Olympic Lifts and a soul satisfied by talking and researching the best CrossFit programming I could never have found him). Some of you are just an absolute joy to see every day which I brag about all the time when people ask me if I like my job. People ask, “Isn’t it hard to deal with people all day and run your own business?” and I pretty much say, “well, no it isn’t because the people I deal with every day are CrossFit People”.
Then there is the support my kids and I get from you, like super cool UofA toy buses and Wilbur (I got a long explanation of who he is from my littlest son-thanks Karen and Robin). There is also the support I get just for being me-like from Erin and Ellie and Nikki. Speaking of which, CONGRATULATIONS ON THE DOUBLE UNDERS, ERIN! There are all those basketball conversations that Carl gets to have with people which makes him happy. You all are an endless resource for me and Carl and each other. We can take trips to the fire station for example. And I know we have rock climbers, attorneys, salsa dancers, primitive desert living experts, doctors, writers, sky divers, laser physicists, MMA and ju jitsu practitioners amongst us in case any of you ever need those things in your life to make it complete.
CrossFit Works is like a living breathing thing of its own that relies on each of you. I wish I could figure out a way to convey to new people who walk in our door and ask what we do and what it is like here, that their monthly membership fee covers the obvious CrossFit workouts, but at least as valuable is this whole world they will become a part of. If you train here and have not gotten to know how amazing your compatriots are and how much your fellow CrossFitters can enrich your life, start talking to people!

Aw! That was such a wonderful post, Jen. I feel so warm and fuzzy now.
But I agree that the people make the environment. CFW truly does feel like a community — not a gym. And I think people really respond to that better, and thus, grow and come to perform at their best. It’s like being on a sports team that gets along.
Lastly, I SO noticed the new logo. Looks great! Chauncey did an awesome job!
CrossFitWorks rocks!
Touche! Thank you everyone for making CFW the community it is! It’s such a great vibe and killer training!
~ Merci ~
…and the new logo is rad!
Thanks Jen for all the great posts!
Jen and Carl….The logo looks great! It’s wonderful to see your vision grow and develop…what a year it’s been!
And to my sweet wife the double under bad ass…I love you.
Crossfit is awesome, but it is one thing to do it on your own, and another to be part of an affiliate. I did Crossfit on my own for six months before I met Jen. Being part of an affiliate is one thing, but being a part of CrossFitWorks is a whole different experience. It is truely a family. Thank you Jen and Carl, and everyone else who makes CrossFitWorks what it is. The new logo looks awesome Chauncey! Who knew?! ERIN!!! I am so excited about the double unders! Way to go girl, so proud!
Jenny
I ditto what they all said (especially all the kudos to Erin for your double unders- will you teach me, still haven’t figured them out yet?) , couldn’t imagine a better place to be inspired each day to be the best I can be, truly we are so blessed. Love the new logo, Chanuncy you are amazing on so many levels!
I got a jump rope today! Wooo-hooo. Carl, thanks for the tip @ Sports Authority. Double unders here I come. I’m packing my jump rope and Crossfitworks t-shirt and taking them to France!!!!
I love the new logo!
And speaking of community, I wanted to ask the massage therapists (Nikki, Summer, Elizabeth and anyone else that I am unaware of) what you are doing about blisters. Mine are starting to become noticable when I massage and I have been using nail files and pumice and lots of lotion but I wanted to see if anyone had other ideas.
I totally agree about this crossfit community, I really missed all you guys on my trip to San Fran! and Chauncey, the Logo is so great! Awesome job with your DUs Erin!
Briar, i use gloves as much as is comfortable for some lifts. but gloves suck! Yeah, I pumice often and just hope no one notices. Haven’t had any clients mention anything yet.
