CONGRATULATIONS!! One Month of the Nutrition Challenge down, two to go.

Sincerest congratulations to all of you who have stuck with the focus on your food.  You are all doing different things, prioritizing different changes, struggling with different challenges but many of you are persevering impressively.

So far, I’m guessing I have only touched the tip of the iceberg in terms of your food and nutrition questions, but we’ll get there by the end.  I am still going to write to you about butter and fats and the Zone diet and gluten and lots of other things.  We’ll get more recipes, more ideas and more strategies.  Did anyone besides Chauncey, Tony’s family, Summer and Bruce and Carl and me go to see Food Inc.?  What did you think?  If you didn’t see it, would you be interested in seeing it here some night in the future?

Check out our girl Brenda at the Farmer’s Market!!with VEGETABLES!

I think it is a sure sign of a changed life when someone, who is not taking a photography class, takes pictures of vegetables!

In order to focus more deliberately and attentively on the people who are really putting in effort I am going to take some of you off my email list.  If I have not heard from you this past month, you are off my 3 Month Nutrition Challenge email list.  I would like to be able to give additional personal attention to those people who are making this a priority at this exact moment in their lives.  I know that many of you will find later moments in your lives when you are ready to do this work and I will still be here then, waiting for you.  Some of you have asked for additional support in your process and don’t forget that Nikki is more than willing to call on her own years of experience and success changing her relationship to food and share her strategies with you, but it still comes down to you doing it.  No amount of talking it over with us every few days will put different food in your belly.  If you aren’t on Nikki’s email list and you would like to be, send me an email.

And I’m very surprised that I am not answering more questions about the information I leave on the white boards for you all because some of it is very very important and somewhat out of the ordinary way of thinking.  Ask me questions if you have them.

Keep your focus.  Let’s see what can happen in the next two months.

Jen, I’d definitely be interested in watching Food Inc again. I think it is necessary for all to see. Also, for anyone who is interested, the meetup girls and I are heading to the St. Phillips Plaza farmers market on Sunday (the 27th) @ 10 am. Come join us, boys are welcome too!

  • Ellie

I would love to watch Food,Inc. some afternoon especially now that it is getting cooler.

Jen, I have some questions about stuff on the board but am usually not able to talk to you when I am at the gym. Should we just write questions down and leave them on your desk?

I finally got a little notebook to carry around so I can write down all I eat. I really think it helps. Shocking that some of your advice is right on… :p.

  • Jen

I miss you Ellie-it is sometimes shocking when I know what I’m talking about! You can leave questions on my desk or email them to me. Hope to see you soon.

  • Nikki Charns

I would like to see Food Inc. as well, have not been able to make as of yet :) .

  • Keith Fournier

I would definitely like to see Food Inc.

  • Chauncey

I would highly recommend FOOD, INC. Yes- I would come watch the movie again. I’m still thinking about it and it has totally changed my understanding of how food is made (or un-made) in America today.

I’m definitely going to start a garden this winter and I’m actually thinking about raising some chickens for meat and possibly eggs. I was talking to the guy at Carter Feed Store and he sells the chicks and then you go back when they are grown and he shows you how to dress them out for the freezer. It’s about the same cost as buying them at the store but you know what you’re feeding them and how they are raised (WATCH THE MOVIE AND YOU’LL KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT). It only takes 8 weeks till they’re ready, then I’ll stock the freezer with 10-12 birds and see if it’s worth it. I’ve also been researching local grass-fed beef- here’s one ranch- check it out http://www.doublecheckranch.com. If anyone wants to go in on like half or quarter of a range/grass-fed critter, let me know. We are also going to explore the local farmers markets.

  • Christine

I’m interested in seeing the movie some evening too

  • Shannon

I NEED to see this film!

  • Summer

Hey Chauncey, Bruce and I are in if you’re getting a quarter or half of a “critter.” Also, if you start having an overload of eggs, we’d purchase some from you too.

  • Luciana

I’m interested on the movie too. Hey Kate, Thursday is 80′s night :-)

  • Shannon

Hey Chauncey, I’d like to speak to you more about the ‘critter’…next time I see ya.

  • Mary

I’d rather have a critter than this Army chow. I’ve been living off of mystery meat! Jen would highly disapprove.

  • Brenda

Food Inc., is an awesome documentary. It’s not boring but shocking… I highly recommend it!!

  • Jen

    Mary,
Sometimes Mystery Meat includes important aspects of the critter that we often avoid if we can, so you may be actually getting just what you need!

  • Estee

Speaking of Mystery Meat, I just watched Erik eat 1/2 of a cow tail (on the bone). I was a little repulsed initially, but after one bite I’m now all for eating the unconventional bits of the critters too!

  • Mary

Mmmm…what are your thoughts on powdered eggs? :)

  • Jen

Ughhh, powdered eggs are the worst invention ever!! Denatured proteins and oxidized cholesterol. But, Mary, you are young-when you get back here we’ll get you recovered from your powdered eggs. Just meditate on those things before you eat them. Picture scrappy little hens running around in Chauncey’s yard eating bugs and weeds, maybe by the power of your imagination you can restore some life into those powdered eggs.
