We aren’t afraid to say it right up front. Improving fitness, increasing energy levels, losing fat all requires a supportive lifestyle. A huge piece of this supportive lifestyle is eating well. Our approach to eating is based on…food. Seems simple doesn’t it? The crazy thing is that the majority of what we all eat and what is for sale in the grocery store is not actually food. Food is the stuff that does not require an ingredients list. Food is the stuff that you can grow in a garden, harvest from the forest or field, catch out of the water, hunt, ranch or farm. Food that is best for humans are the things that we have been eating for thousands of years. We can look back in time and identify which foods nourished our ancestors who did not have central heating or a store around the corner. We can look at the research of medical anthropologists and see that peoples who ate more grains and starches had more disease and thinner bones. We can see that people who ate meat, fish, seeds, nuts, vegetables and wild fruits were the strongest and most robust. We can look at cutting edge research regarding the molecular structure of things we eat and how our digestive and immune systems are impacted by the structure. We can ponder phenomenon like the fact that our children are the first generation predicted to die before their parents due to Type II diabetes, a disease that is absolutely due to lifestyle, primarily a diet too high in simple, grain-based carbohydrates and a lack of activity.
Our perspective is simple: training hard while eating crap will not produce excellent health or superior fitness. We can teach you how to eat a clean, delicious, nourishing, satiating diet. If you want to fine tune your body composition or address particular health concerns we can also help you measure and optimize your macronutrient ratios as well as assess your micronutrient intakes.
As a nutrition therapist my least favorite question is, “How long do I have to stay on this plan?” The obvious answer is “Well how long would you like to stay healthy before you go back to your overweight self?” For real!! Healthy eating isn’t meant to be done for 6 weeks, pre bathing suit season before you return to your normal frozen pizza existence. By the same token, “Is once a week enough to come in and work out?” is a crazy, crazy question. There are 168 hours in a week. Is 1 out of 168 going to turn you into a physically fit person? Most certainly not. But magic can happen if you can give us 3 of your 168. We know our approach can change you. Give us a real reasonable chance. Take our suggestions, give the workouts your all and watch what happens. We have the program. You do the sweat.
The Rules are simple:
Show up.
Work hard.
Eat what you are designed to eat.
And keep doing it!
